Magar Yegmalian

Born: February 2, 1856 – Died: March 6, 1905

Magar Yegmalian was born in Vagharshapat, Armenia on February 2, 1856. Yegmalian’s most notable accomplishment is the publication of the Chants of the Divine Liturgy of the Armenian Apostolic Church (1896). Yegmalian finished his composition of the Liturgy in 1893 where it was sung at the Cathedral of Tiflis (Georgia) before it was officially accepted by Catholicos Mgurdich I on June 7, 1895. It was widely published and disseminated in 1896 is the most practiced referential work to present day. Yegmalian has two publication of his Divine Liturgy, one for three-part male chorus and the other for four-part mixed chorus.
